Tan Ikram bio

Tanweer Ikram CBE DL - Deputy Senior District Judge (Chief Magistrate), CMO, Westminster Magistrates’ Court

Tan, born in Slough in Buckinghamshire, is of Pakistani heritage and was called to the Bar in 1990 and admitted as a solicitor in 1993.   

He was appointed a District Judge in 2009 and the Deputy Senior District Judge of England & Wales in 2015. He hears extradition, terrorism and sensitive criminal cases and has served as an Associate Judge of the Sovereign Base Area of Akrotiri & Dhekelia (a British Overseas Territory) from 2014 to 2019.  He also sits as a judge in the Crown Court on the Midlands Circuit.

Tan is the Deputy Lead Diversity and Community Relations Judge, an editor of the ETBB and a member of the Judges’ Council Diversity Committee. 

He was awarded the CBE in the 2021 Honours list and commissioned Deputy Lieutenant for Berkshire in 2023. 

His interests include classic cars and owns the getaway car of choice from the 1960s. 

Tan is an alum of Windsor Leadership having participated on the Strategic Leaders Consultation.
