Anthony Ainsworth Biography

 Anthony Ainsworth, Chief Operating Officer I&C, E.ON UK plc

Anthony has over 25 years board experience and is currently COO for E.ON UK’s I&C (Industrial & Commercial) division. He recently led the integration of two major competitors to create a market-leading business with >£6bn revenues and c1,000 people. Anthony is passionate about creating inclusive and empowering cultures and playing a leading role in the UK energy transition.

Until mid-2020, Anthony was based in Germany as CEO of E.ON Business Solutions which serves business customers across c 20 countries with integrated Energy Generation and Energy Management Solutions. The core purpose of the division is to enable businesses to decarbonise and achieve their energy efficiency, sustainability and compliance goals. 

Prior to this, Anthony was E.ON’s Global Chief Marketing Officer and devised and led the global brand re-positioning to enable the shift towards being a more customer-centric and digital organisation. For six years he was the executive sponsor of E.ON’s Global NPS programme and worked with the Group CEO to shape and develop a new E.ON Culture. Anthony also took on the role of interim Chief Digital Officer as E.ON set up its first global digital transformation programme. 

Before creating the Group’s lead marketing role, from 2012 to 2015 Anthony was E.ON UK’s B2B Managing Director responsible for the profit streams from £3bn of B2B revenues in both SME and I&C markets; Anthony also held roles as the E.ON UK Marketing Director responsible for the delivery of UK-wide Marketing, Digital, Customer programmes and also as UK Sales Director responsible for all B2C and B2B sales channels and partnerships.

Anthony joined E.ON in February 2012 and previously worked at Avis where he was UK Commercial Director. He has also held senior roles with Santander, Lloyds TSB, Universal Studios and the Rank Group. 

Anthony qualified as an accountant in London and has worked and lived in the Bahamas and New Jersey and held board roles in Japan, Hong Kong and China. He has an MBA from Cranfield School of Management where he specialised in Entrepreneurship and Business Growth. He currently lives in St Albans and has three grown-up children and one grandson.

Anthony is an alumnus of Windsor Leadership having participated on both new the Newly Appointed and the Experienced Leaders programmes.
