Luqman Ali, Chief Executive Officer, Khayaal Theatre Company
Luqman trained in the sciences of Islam and the languages (Arabic, Persian and Urdu), literature and cultures of the Middle East and the Indian Sub-continent before serving as a pastoral and teaching imam in communities in the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, South Africa, Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Bahrain and beyond.
He then spent a decade as a linguist, writer/translator before serving for three years as programmes manager for Refugee Relief Iraq where he raised funds from European GO's and NGO's in order to deliver humanitarian projects for refugees in the Middle East in conjunction with DFID and UNHCR. In 1997, he co-founded Khayaal, the first professional theatre company dedicated to the exploration of classic Muslim literature through contemporary stagecraft as a means of fostering greater intercultural and interfaith engagement and understanding. Luqman is currently working to nurture an inclusive humanitarian discourse of story and dream in Muslim communities and between those communities and wider society through Khayaal’s national Theatre-without-Walls programme that includes adaptations of wisdom tales from Hinduism, Taoism, Judaism, Christianity, Sikhism and Islam.
Luqman loves wild swimming, playing basketball with his sons, probing history, writing poetry and just recently enjoyed a bit of fell running.
He is an alumnus of Windsor Leadership having taken part in the 2022 Strategic Leadership Consultation.
