Ian is an experienced and accomplished senior leader, with a professional background in Defence acquisition and a first-class record in successful delivery of large scale programmes and business outcomes. A career in submarines has included delivering capability on operations, support and training at the waterfront, capability sponsorship in Head Office and as Head of Combat Systems for the Submarine Delivery Agency.
Ian is now an independent consultant, specialising in navigating complexity.
He has a passion for, and wide-ranging experience in, developing people and organisations through tackling systemic challenges. He uses strong leadership, grounded in self-awareness and humility. His speciality is in navigating complex large-scale multidisciplinary environments, bringing stakeholder perspectives together, to focus on common goals and then simplifying complexity to facilitate and enable decision-making in ambiguity and the achievement of successful outcomes.
He has developed a leadership philosophy of inspiring others to exceed expectations by being the best they can be. He is an advocate of understanding through emotional intelligence, empathising through humility and inspiring through expert communication. Through this philosophy, Ian wants to influence, develop and support the next generation of leadership.
